God is in the Details
On March 2, 2017, I was driving home from work like any normal day. As I was trying to merge onto the interstate, the cars in front of me slammed on their breaks. I nicked the car in front of me as I was moving into the next lane. I was so mad and upset. I pulled over and began the process of exchanging info and calling insurance companies. Thankfully the guy wasn’t too mad and the damage was not that bad at all. I drove home bummed and frustrated about what just happened.
When I got home, my daughter was concerned about being late for the final dress rehearsal for the school musical.
Let me back up and say it is Nebraska and in March, it is still very cold.
Courtney was getting dressed in her outfit, which consisted of shorts and short sleeve shirt with slip on shoes. Not the outfit you want to wear in the winter but the play was to take place on a cruise ship and she needed to look the part. As she headed out the door, I told her, “I love you, be safe”. She yelled back like always, “I will”. She left and my husband and I left to eat dinner at Taco Bell.
I remember at dinner being so upset about my fender bender and we were talking about how to get repairs done and contacting insurance agents. Dinner finished like normal, we got in our cars to drive to Best Buy then my husbands phone rang. He doesn’t usually answer calls when he doesn’t recognize the number. He answered the phone and then his voice became so serious. I heard, “Hello, Yes, Where is she?, Is anyone else injured?, We are on our way.” Scott got off the phone and told me that Courtney rolled her truck and is being taken by ambulance to Nebraska Medical Center. He told me to get out my phone and pull up the fastest way to get there. As we drove, we had so many questions going through our minds filled with what we were going to have to face once we got to the hospital. It was God’s hands on us that allowed us to drive to the hospital given the amount of panic we felt. That was one of the longest drives of my life.
Once we arrived, we had to fill out paper work before they would let us back to see Courtney. I started to experience a full blown panic attack about to happen as the woman checking us in was asking for information that is usually really easy to spout out but my brain had a hard time recalling the basic information. Scott and I tag teamed answering questions as they were asked. When I did answer questions my voice was on the verge of completely breaking down right there in the E.R. FINALLY, they let us back to see our daughter.
As we walked towards her room, I was doing deep breathing not knowing what we would see or hear from Courtney and praying God to give me strength. When I opened the door and saw her lying on the bed, still on the stretcher, a very loud and clear voice spoke to me. I heard, “I saved her! Don’t let your mind go there! I saved her!” God spoke so clearly to me. I immediately had a confidence fill me that cannot be explained by words. I was still upset, but knew Satan had no hold on my daughter. God had wrapped his arms around her as her truck rolled multiple times until resting in a farmer’s field.
As the night unfolded, Scott and I were surrounded by the love of friends who came to the hospital to sit with us and pray with us. We had Courtney’s friends come to the hospital to provide her with comfort and laughter. God just walked with her and us through the entire time.
God is in ALL the Details
It is very clear to us that God was in all the details of her accident. She should not have lived.
The moment her truck stopped rolling, a man and woman who was visiting a friend heard and saw her truck rolling to a stop near the house. The man called 911 and the woman ran out to the truck to see if Courtney was okay. We later found out that Courtney and Jenny W. were friends on Instagram but didn’t really know each other personally. Jenny and her husband stayed with Courtney until EMS showed up.
Here is a picture of Jenny visiting Courtney the next morning at the hospital.
The gravel road Courtney was traveling on that night doesn’t have much traffic unless you live in the area. The fact that this couple was visiting friends for dinner shows me that God placed Jenny and her husband there at that moment to protect my daughter. I am forever grateful! God is like that…God shows up in ways we can never plan or even think would happen. God is in the details!
Two pictures of Courtney's truck after being towed to the impound lot.
Courtney only suffered a broken thumb, another God detail.
Courtney had a deep cut on her ankle that only needed stitches, another God detail.
Thank you God for being in the details of our lives!
Courtney the day we left the hospital.
My car accident earlier in the evening instantly became so small and unimportant. God was even in the details of my accident. I praise him!
Today Courtney is thriving. She left in September 2017 to go on a 9 month mission trip. She is able to travel to 6 different countries in the 9 months doing mission work. As I type this blog, she is in Ecuador for the next three months. God is using her and has big plans for her life. I know it. God saved her. I know it because he told me, “I SAVED HER!” very clearly that night of her accident.
